Thom & Emily Combe

Biography

Thom and Emily Combe have been writing music and performing together for the past eight years. They write soulful, catchy and honest music about life's little surprises and ups and downs. Being siblings, they have a strong musical connection that audiences can feel in their live performances. When they are not playing as a duo, they headline Adelaide band 'The Finishing School' and have gigged extensively throughout Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne. 2006 had them turning heads in the U.S of A when taking out a nice little accolade at the LA music AWARDS, winning the title of 'Best Pop Artist of the Year' for their song 'You Taught Me'. For 2008 there are plans for more touring as well as recording a full album to be released sometime this year.

More about their band The Finishing School:

What has become The Finishing School today began as a humble acoustic trio in 2001, under the guise of EmcTrio. This soon grew to include a cello and drum kit. Armed with this array of strings and percussion the EmCQuintet began to flirt with audiences all over Adelaide.

As the seasons passed things changed, as they do. An electric bass was found, and then later a cello was lost, and various musicians found their way in or out of the band. The result of this was three guys and a girl, who would best be described as The Finishing School.

Realising that one musn't put all of their eggs in one basket, they put a few in folk, a couple in jazz, maybe just a yolk in classical, and are gradually filling up rock. Now, this finely oiled and efficient form of distrubution is utilised on a much wider scale than mere eggs. In fact the band only requires two surnames between the four of them; drummer Zac and bassist Tristan sharing Courtney, and guitarist and singer Thom and violinist and singer Emily fighting over Combe.

This sibling set has made themselves at home in several pubs around Adelaide including The Grace Emily and The Exeter, and on the same bill as the likes of Evermore, Abbie Cardwell and Fruit. The Finishing School also embarked on a 'mini tour' to Melbourne at the end of July to play at 'Dreams Bar' and 'The Corner Hotel' and had a great response from the Melbourne punters. PBSFM in melbourne have also been giving the band a healthy airplay over the past 2 months with 'You Make Me laugh' ,'Better' and 'Today' as the three favourites. In January of 06 'Better' was taken to the prestigous MIDEM festival in Cannes France on a compilation CD of unsigned bands with the Sydney company 'TUNETANK' and was very well recieved by publishers and licensing firms. Two months later, the same company took 'You Make Me laugh' to the SXSW festival in the US which received copious amounts of publishing and licensing offers from Australia and overseas. With an EP in stock, a new EP recently launched to a sell out audience at JIVE BAR Adelaide and a national tour starting January 26th 2007, The Finishing School have much to offer. You might even learn a thing or two about manners!
