ONOFFON

Biography

ONOFFON is the combined talents of Von Babasin, Dave Goode and Don Lake.  Von Babasin — bass, vocals, keyboards — is the son of the ’40s and ’50s jazz bassist/cellist Harry Babasin, whose Nocturne Records contributed significantly to West Coast Jazz.  Dave Goode plays drums and percussion and Dave and Von played together for over a decade before meeting Von Don Lake who plays guitars, vocals, and harmonica.

ONOFFON has three independently released CDs that can be found on more than 3,000 websites around the world. In 2006, Bridge to Presage received ‘Best Album’ by the International Online Music Awards.

Reviews compare OnOFFON to Dave Matthews, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Steely Dan, Brand X, Phish, King Crimson, Eric Clapton, Pat Travers, Pat Metheny, Camel, Alan Holdsworth, Spyro Gyra... not so much ‘sounds like,’ but more in ‘musical approach.‘

“The music of southern Californian band ONOFFON (BMI) is hard to categorize, but easy to listen to (which is not to say this is easy listening by any means). Their brand of rock combines elements of progressive rock with straight jazz. You can hear the influence of the cool jazz of the ’50s West Coast players in their music, as well as the complexity of bands such as Gentle Giant and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, influences to which the band will readily admit… Their first album, Surrender Now, was released in 1997 and earned the band excellent reviews on many fronts for the strong musicianship.”
